The Irishman, on paper, sounds like an overblown ego move. It’s intimidatingly long, with a cast he previously worked with during his ‘glory days’ —considering the acclaim of Silence in 2016, it’s difficult to say that with any seriousness, but it could be seen in that light. To top it all off, it has an impossible $159,000,000 budget, in part due to the CGI work that went into de-ageing those actors. But throughout the film, Scorsese proves again and again how he earns that time.
